Hello Parents & Caregivers,
We hope you enjoyed the holiday last Wednesday. We apologise for the late post for last week, the website has been down for a number of days and would not let us sign in! Now we have access we have a lot to catch you up on! We have been busy bees here in 2M as we have been investigating the wind last week and looking at water this week. We learnt all about wind using our 5 senses. We brainstormed all the different activities we can do in windy weather. This week we are looking at water and what a precious resource it is. We are going to break up into groups and create posters that let people around our school know how to save water, because every drop counts!

Last week we looked at the sound the letter/s t and tt make. We looked at words such as little and start. This week our sound is oo, our, or, ar, aw and aught. We are looking at words such as door and forty. We have been practicing our drop on letters in handwriting. We have also been practicing our pencil grip before handwriting as this is the most important element to neat handwriting. Our rotations have been a success as we have looked at Verbs, Adjectives, Nouns, Guided Reading, Modelled Reading, Comprehension Strategies and Punctuation. These are all important topics in becoming literate students.
In Mathematics this fortnight, we have looked at grams and kilograms. This was a lot of fun as we were able to use our scales, weights and different objects around the room. We have also been creating our own counting patterns in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and making our own patterns. We looked at calendars last week and we found that 2M are experts at using a calendar. During Art we have been practicing using our scissors. We cut in straight lines and wiggly lines. We enjoy using our scissors and practicing our fine motor skills. We have been working hard on our ‘Inventions’ which are our end of term tasks. Our task is a modification or invention that helps protect people from the weather. Thank-you to those families that have donated construction materials for our tasks such as; cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and straws.

Week Five
Parents/Caregivers,
This week marked the middle of Term 3 and wasn’t it an incredible week.
This week we looked at cloud types, their names and what they look like. We focused on the four main types of clouds; stratus, cirrus, cumulus and cumulonimbus. We also made a cloud finder to help us investigate and determine the cloud types we see during our school day. We also had a lot of fun doing our weekly science experiment where Miss Renee made a tornado in a jar! This is a fun and easy experiment to do at home!
During Literacy this week, we focused on the sounds ‘ir, ur, or and er’. You hear this sound in words such as; bird, fern and word. Our spelling words were related to these sounds, and we became book detectives again and found these sounds in a big book. We did some great writing this week along with fantastic guided reading groups, modelled reading activities with Miss Renee and we have been practicing really hard with our independent reading. It is important that we have the chance to practice our de-coding strategies on our own as well as with the whole class and small groups.
We have been busy in Mathematics this week looking at millimeters, centimeters and meters again. We have been measuring different objects and getting used to using our rulers. We looked at 3D shapes again and we were able to make our own cube from a net. This was a tricky and rewarding task as it helped us understand what a net is and encouraged us to look at the faces, edges and corners of a cube. Miss Alyce gave us a new clock to place into our classroom that is helping us everyday with telling the time. We have also been practicing our problem solving skills and how to be creative when it comes to Mathematics.
This week we have been introduced to our ‘assignment’ for the term. We are to plan, design, build and reflect upon an apparatus that will protect us from the weather. This week we used our imaginations to think of an invention or modification that would protect people form the weather. We are kindly asking if any parents have left over cardboard boxes, bottles, aluminum foil or any construction materials that they could generously donate to the classroom – that would be greatly appreciated!
We have also been keeping up with our ICT skills in the computer lab. Miss Renee is teaching us all to be competent users of a computer, and showing us the important skills and understandings to confidently use computer programs.
Just a few housekeeping reminders:
• Spring Fair – If any parents have any donations of small toys, lollies, hair ties etc. that would be extremely appreciated.
• Our new Library opens this week! We are very excited to start borrowing books again.
• Thank you to those parents who are offering their time in the classroom, we value you and your support!

Week Four
Hello there,
This week has been yet again another fantastic week! We investigated temperature and what it means to us. We have a class thermometer now that shows us what the classroom temperature is. We are excited to see if there is a change in the temperature from morning to afternoon. We created a thermometer with chalk and key words, which we moved along for different scenarios. Miss Renee gave us different scenarios eg. In the desert, in the snow, at the beach in the shade, drinking a warm drink in Winter etc. and asked us how we would feel if we were there. This was fun because we were able to explore different weather types and temperatures with our imagination.
Rotations were very effective this week. We learnt all about pronouns, compound words and opposites. Did you know that pronouns make our writing not so repetitive? Did you know that there are a lot of different compound words starting with sun eg. sunshine, sunrise, sunset and sunscreen. There are also a lot of compound words starting with under eg. underground, underwater, underneath and undergrowth. This week, we also spent a lot of time working on our reading strategies. We watched Miss Renee as she modelled reading and de-coding the text. We participated in guided reading groups and spent some time after lunch reading independently.
During Mathematics, we learnt all about centimeters, millimeters and meters. We measured different objects around the room and we also measured different leaves. We also worked on coordinates. This was a lot of fun as we had to listen to Miss Renee as we found different coordinates and completed different steps. We also learnt about the hundreds column and played a fun game called “one thousand not out”. Plus, we also had a lot of fun learning more about telling the time. Please encourage us at home to practice these new understandings and skills!
During Art, we looked at texture and the way things feel. We brainstormed a lot of different words to describe how things feel. Feel free to look at our texture display on our classroom window!
What another incredible week we have had here in 2M. We can’t believe that it is nearly half way through the term. Miss Renee also taught us this week that it is all about having a go! If your afraid that you might get the answer wrong it is important to remind yourself that it is not about getting it right, it is about having a go and trying your hardest!
